More Beauty in Marin

“I believe that there is a subtle magnetism in Nature, which, if we unconsciously yield to it, will direct us aright.”

~Henry David Thoreau

Living in Southern Marin includes the amazing benefit of finding gems everywhere. Recently, I decided to take a drive onto Sir Francis Drake Blvd just off Highway 101. While stopped at a red light in the little town of Ross, I spotted the Marin Art & Garden Center. I didn’t hesitate to immediately pull into the parking lot. I love discovering new places. And this one was perfect for me. Flowers, nature, and a gorgeous spring day.

As I made my way into the main office, I was instantly greeted by two lovely ladies eager to welcome me to this oasis. I picked up my map and began my solo journey across the grounds. I enjoy exploring alone. There’s something magical about absorbing nature silently.

The trees were magnificent. So tall and immense, with branches moving in wild ways. The Butterfly Cottage and Bottle House were adorable. A group of women were busily tending to the herb garden, chatting away, relishing the important work of beautification, and the joy found in communion. The fountain called to me as I sat in blissful serenity for several minutes.

As I continued along, I came to the most amazing barn theatre where the Ross Valley Players have been presenting plays since 1930. It’s the longest running community theater west of the Mississippi. I’m looking forward to returning to see as many plays as I can. In addition, there is an amphitheater and other stages scattered about the grounds which are obviously well-utilized. I’ll definitely be bringing my family here.

Happy Spring!
March’s birth flower is the daffodil, which means unequaled love; the sun is always shining whenever your significant other is around.

The flowers were phenomenal. Everywhere I turned was evidence of springtime. March is my birthday month and favorite time of year. All around me nature is flourishing with life. It’s really inspiring. Moving through the rose garden, I was impressed at the quality of the bushes. It is going to be stunning in a few short weeks once the blooms are bursting forth.

The serenity garden was calm and peaceful. I especially enjoyed the statues. The lovely young woman standing pose with her arm held behind her back and the contemplative female propped up on her arm both seemed to hold similar thoughts to mine; what is this mystery we call life? Perhaps spending quiet time under the trees will provide us the answers we seek.

Around the bend was another surprise. I’d never seen a Basket Garden before, so that was an especially interesting find. Those baskets are huge! I could just picture cats having a ball jumping into and climbing out of them. The antique store was fabulous. I wanted to purchase so many items, but practiced a restraint known only to those who must budget every penny.

Living in California is expensive, but there are countless free things to enjoy everyday. I highly recommend taking advantage of this fantastic treasure. Perhaps I’ll see you there. All in all, it was such a wonderful experience. This area never ceases to amaze me with its brilliance and beauty. I’m grateful for every moment here.
